Managed Account
A segregated portfolio managed for a single investor under an investment management agreement, rather than a pooled fund.
A managed account, or separately managed account (SMA), is an arrangement in which a manager runs a mandate for a single investor in an account the investor owns, under an investment management agreement, rather than through a commingled fund. SMAs offer the investor transparency, control and bespoke terms, and are common for large institutional allocations. They are typically not regulated as funds, though the manager and any Cayman vehicle used may have their own regulatory considerations.
